WE MUST BE CAREFUL, FAILURE ON THE WAY

By now Citizens would have known who are the nominated members of the Commonwealth Steering committee to oversee the dialogue process between the Patriotic Front and the Opposition United party for National development.

According to the latest meeting addressed by Commonwealth Special Envoy, Professor, Ibrahim Gambari, stated that names of individuals to sit on the committee were supposed to have been unveiled on the 26th March, 2018.

Before the 26th March, 2018, wild speculations emerged suggesting that the impeachment motion by the UPND filed before Parliament a week ago, was the behind the non announcement of the steering committee.

Current affairs Commentators offered divergent views marrying the impeachment motion to possible collapse of the much anticipated dialogue process.

Our Team has however, established reasons that have contributed to the delay to make known the Steering Committee as indicated by Professor Gambari.

It was an agreed position by concerned all parties in the dialogue to each Submit their preferred Nominees to the Commonwealth.

The idea is each identified party( the Church, Political parties, Zambia Centre for Inter-Party Dialogue-ZCID) were required to identify own individuals to represent their views and demand on the Steering Committee.

When each interested party(ies) submits their nominated persons, the nominees were then expected to elect a Chairman and a Deputy Chair, including election of Members of agreed sub committees.

Our Investigations has established that submission of Nominees did not go as expected. Some of the concerned parties have NOT done so hence the reason to put forward the announcement until further Notice.

What we know so far is as follows;

The Patriotic Front wants the Zambia Centre for Inter-Party Dialogue to Lead the Dialogue process, a Situation, which the Opposition United Party for National Development has vehemently opposed.

Such antagonistic approach will be in the long run bring to a halt the whole dialogue process before the 2019 set date to conclude the process.

For whatever, reasons, ZCID should not lead the dialogue process, the body has not demonstrated capacity to bring any satisfactory dialogue in Zambia.

Stakeholders have no faith, if it is like that why is the PF then insisting on ZCID to be in their forefront.
The PF as a concerned party must not favour ZCID to take up the process. It is like a Football team, choosing who should 'referee' a match as an interested is just awkward.

If our Leaders are honest, Let them tell the Nation if their political parties chosen and submitted nominees to the Commonwealth?

In the end, money maybe wasted on the so called dialogue process. Nobody is willing to disclose how much money has so far been used in the process from 2016.

To us, the Commonwealth is using the Zambian situation to remain relevant, in fact, the Commonwealth can just do as much as Our Leaders are willing to go in the race to find unity.

The Commonwealth was far behind in the Kenyan political event, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Figure Raila Odinga, worked out peace without its direct involvement.

Our Next Analysis will focus on Dr. Fred Mmembe, who is the Socialist Party of Zambia Presidential Candidate for the 2021 general elections.

We do not need no war, all we need is peace and love for one another.
